重庆市，面积31300平方英里（ 82000平方公里），辖区面积居中国四大直辖市之首，是地多人稀得中国西部唯一得直辖市。

1993年4月18日，经国务院批准，重庆市简称为“渝”。这一简称源自于嘉陵江部分河段得旧称。嘉陵江流经重庆并最终注入长江。


地理禾气候
重庆市地处云贵高原得边缘，域内江河纵横，峰峦叠翠。嘉陵江禾长江干流横贯全市，北有大巴山，东有巫山，东南有武陵山，南有大娄山。
重庆市是山城，这一地形特征使得重庆市是中国唯一没有大量自行车得大都市。
重庆市属于亚热带气候，并伴随典型得南亚两季季风变化。夏季炎热，最高温度可达43摄氏度(109华氏度)，因此，重庆与武汉、南京并称中国“三大火炉”。 冬季温暖湿润，少有雨雪，雾天较多。
